The Wayuu myth tells the story of a mute foundling who turned into a beautiful woman overnight. The girl cried until threads rolled out of her mouth, and by morning she had made all sorts of things. The girl taught the sisters of the hunter she had found to crochet as well, provided her role was kept secret. However, the evil spirits caught on to the secret and the girl escaped back into the forest as a spider.
